Styling a Side Table

Hey there!  Tacking on another post to my series of Styling Tips, I've decided to devote this one to styling a side table.  Now, this could also very easily apply to a coffee or end table as well, so don't feel like this is strictly for side tables.

Keep the Decor to a Minimum
I cannot tell you how many side tables I've seen on Pinterest or Instagram that are completely full of decor items.  I think to myself, "Is there even a place to set a drink down?"  And the answer is usually no.  That's pretty much the whole point of a side table, right?  It's perfectly fine to add decor items to a small side or end table, but don't overdo it. When styling your own table, it might help to always raise the question, "can I set something down without having to move stuff around?"

Use Accents to Bring Out Color in the Room
A side or end table is a great place to add pieces that complement the room's style or color scheme.  For instance, if your space has a neutral palette with a navy blue accent color, adding navy blue vintage books or ceramic vase filled with flowers to your side table would be a perfect way to bring out those blue elements throughout the room.

Build Cohesiveness Using Textures and Patterns
Another great way to keep your side table decor aligned with the rest of the room is by using textures and patterns.  Does your room have silver, brass, or gold finishes throughout?  It's important to add those elements to your accent tables as well.  This could be carried out through gold legs on the table, adding a silver/reflective vase, or even some brass taper candle holders.

Add Plants
Plants are a personal staple of mine in every room of my home.  Whether they are real or faux, they can easily add an effortless beauty to anywhere they're placed.  With so many varieties, shapes, and colors, it might be just the thing you need to complete your side table as well!
