Adding Natural Light to Your Space

Hello friends!  To kick off a series of styling tips on JL & Belle, today I will be sharing some easy ways to add natural light to your space without breaking the bank.

Add a Mirror
For spaces that have limited or no natural light coming in, a mirror not only simulates the effect of having a window, but it also makes the space look larger than it actually is.  Mirrors can also distract the eye from low ceilings and sharp corners.

Lighten Wall Colors
Soft white (or very pale blue and grey) walls can help simulate natural light because of their ability to make the space look and feel larger.  Lighter walls also reflect off of other similar colors to reflect the brightest look possible.   If your space is smaller, keeping one wall color throughout the room (including the ceiling) is also essential to help blur the corners and edges of the space.

Lighten Up with Drapery
If painting the walls seems too daunting of a task, hanging light-colored curtains from ceiling to floor are a surefire way to brighten your space.  Curtains can be added as a beautiful backdrop in a bedroom or living space to give a sense of depth.

Add Lighter Decor & Accents
If your space is filled with dark wood and upholstery, adding light colored throw pillows and blankets  to the seating will help break up some of the dark shadows and bring in a touch of lightness.

Consider Light-Colored Artwork
Along with adding mirrors to lighten up a dark room, large artwork with metallic frames can help break up darker wall colors just like a window would.  Adding colorful artwork to a space can also channel your artistic flair too!
